The Centre for Humanitarian Leadership (CHL) is proud to be part of a new joint initiative between Deakin University and the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee: The Centre for Resilience and Recovery Leadership (CRRL).

The CRRL brings together Deakin South Asia and IIT Roorkee’s ICARS — a Government of India Department of Science and Technology Centre of Excellence led by Professor Anil Kumar Gupta — in an institutional partnership focused on resilience leadership, disaster risk reduction, post-disaster recovery, capacity building, research, innovation and knowledge exchange across India.

As Deakin’s specialist humanitarian leadership unit, CHL contributes its Leadership Framework and facilitation expertise to the partnership.

The first joint activity is a three-day Leadership for Crisis Managers program, running 27–29 October 2026 at the IIT Roorkee Greater Noida campus. CHL’s Business Development Manager, Catherine Johnston, will lead the leadership components, with IIT Roorkee and ICARS contributing India-specific sessions. The program builds on CHL’s earlier leadership delivery in India with UNDP.

We look forward to deepening this partnership and to the contributions the CRRL will make to crisis leadership and disaster resilience across the region.
