We are delighted to announce the appointment of CHL’s Dr Marian Abouzeid as the Associate Project Lead of The Lancet–AUB Commission on Syria. Headquartered at the American University of Beirut’s Faculty of Health Sciences, this high-profile international initiative is a collaborative multidisciplinary effort that engages experts from across the globe to address one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time.

Marian has been with the Commission since 2017 as a Visiting Research Fellow, where she has helped shape the research agenda of the Commission and contributed to a range of research and advocacy initiatives. Marian is also spearheading the Commission’s initiative to establish a global society on health and armed conflict to enhance leadership, improve collaboration, and advance the science and practice of the field of health and armed conflict.

CHL Directror A/Prof Phil Connors said, “Marian’s appointment reflects her dedication and hard work, and her commitment to this initiative. CHL is proud to support this work and to be centrally involved in this important international effort.”

Commission Co-Chair A/Prof Samer Jabbour adds, “Marian has been a tremendous addition to the Commission team and this appointment is a recognition of her leadership capacity. The Commission values this unique collaboration with CHL and is grateful for the support provided through Marian.”

Marian assumes this new role at a critical juncture as the Commission prepares to issue its report and transition into its next phase.
